James Gunn’s Bold Vision: ‘Superman’ Launches New DC Universe, ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 to Shape the Future

James Gunn’s highly anticipated film Superman has officially launched the new DC Universe (DCU), marking a fresh direction for the franchise.

The film is now available for digital purchase and rental on platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, with physical copies (4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD) set to release on September 23.

A bonus feature titled “A New Era: DC Takes Off” offers behind-the-scenes insights from the cast and creators, including David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), and director/writer James Gunn. The team emphasizes the significance of relaunching Superman as a central figure in DC’s expanded cinematic and television universe.

While Superman sets the stage for the DCU, it’s the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2 that will truly shape the future of the universe. Gunn revealed that Season 2 will directly follow the events of Superman, establishing a strong connection between the film and the TV series.

The show will remain adult-oriented but will introduce several characters from Superman, reinforcing Gunn’s vision of an interconnected DCU. John Cena returns as Peacemaker, and he emphasized that the second season contributes significantly to the broader narrative rather than functioning as a standalone story.

The plot will continue the journey of the 11th Street Kids and push the DCU into its next phase. Peacemaker Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
