Ike Barinholtz to Portray Elon Musk in Luca Guadagnino’s AI-Themed Satirical Drama ‘Artificial’

Emmy-nominated actor Ike Barinholtz is set to take on the role of Elon Musk in Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film Artificial, a comedic drama centered on the internal turmoil at OpenAI. The film, currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios, explores the brief period in November 2024 when Sam Altman was fired and swiftly reinstated as CEO of OpenAI. Barinholtz’s casting has generated significant buzz, with many intrigued by his portrayal of the tech mogul.

The ensemble cast includes Andrew Garfield as Sam Altman, Yura Borisov, and Cooper Koch, with Monica Barbaro also in talks for a role. The screenplay is penned by Simon Rich, who will also produce the film alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, and Jennifer Fox.

Barinholtz, known for his sharp comedic sensibilities, recently earned an Emmy nomination for his role as Sal Saperstein in Apple TV+’s The Studio. He also co-created and co-stars in Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point, which has been renewed for a second season.
